Jacobi created this series in Chicago in 2016. Eye Candy/Censorship Barbie is about paradoxes. At once censored and desired, natural and cultivated, unique and mass-produced, female-identifying bodies transform into sites where unwinnable and unattainable ideologies of physical and personal success play out in conflict. Do your makeup, but not too much. Speak your mind, but not too strongly. Seduce, but fear seduction. The “idealized” female body is examined, worshipped, and critically probed in this series. At the heart of this series is the question, “Can I be desirable but also autonomous?”
